Huang Dekun was born in Chengdu, Sichuan in 1975. Since graduating from Sichuan Fine Arts Academy in 1998, he has been teaching Chinese painting and calligraphy at Sichuan Teachers University. A master of Tang (618-907), Five Dynasties (907-960), and Yuan (1279-1368) painting styles, Prof. Huang is beginning to earn a ranking alongside the most celebrated artists of the past. He has received extensive national recognition for his reproductions of famous Chinese paintings. As a young but accomplished professional artist, Huang is passionate about Chinese painting traditions and the technique of learning-by-copying. He values the same method in teaching his students. His reproductions of ancient Chinese paintings can be compared with museum-owned masterpieces that are copies of or inspired by artists of the Tang, Five Dynasties, and Yuan. His reproductions of famous old paintings, all of them collectible, are one of the gems in WEI YANG ART. Given the difficulty of purchasing high quality ancient Chinese painting, Huang's reproductions are a thrilling and sensible alternative for the serious collector.
Reproductions of famous old Chinese paintings by Huang are mainly based on traditional paintings in museum collections in China. As an art professor, he has gained personal access to many old masters' original works housed in Chinese museums. His works demonstrate his devotion to traditional Chinese art and painting techniques. He spent six months reproducing the Double Screen by Zhou Wenju of the Five Dynasties (10th c.), shown in our catalog under Reproductions. After living with the painting for eight years, this and other paintings had become part of him, and he was very emotional when he decided to put it up for sale in 2005 in order to support his other art projects. The passion, expertise, and dedication to classical Chinese painting traditions in Chinese Art Paintings convinced him that his paintings would find a good home. Professor Huang is willing to accept commissions for any classical Chinese figure paintings before the 14th century currently held in any museum or private collection. Huang's work is available in our Current Offerings under Classical Chinese Paintings.

Chinese ArtistGao Peng was born in 1962 into a doctor’s family in Jiuquan, Gansu. His love for painting started at a very early age.  His talent for art was initially recognized by his father, Dr. Gao Zhenyuan, who is an amateur calligrapher.  Dr. Gao started to give his son preliminary training in calligraphy when he was still in kindergarten.  Even now his former high school teachers still chide him for trying to use drawings rather than compositions in all of his subjects.  After graduating from high school in 1978, Gao became a professional artist in Dunhuang.  Currently he holds an appointment in the Art Research Institute at the Dunhuang Research Academy.

Gao was trained to be professional artist specializing in reproducing Buddhist paintings in the Dunhuang caves.  His early mentors included the distinguished Professor Duan Wenjie (former Director of the Dunhuang Research Academy), Wan Guangyu, and Ouyang Lin.  After several years of on-site training, Gao’s talent for capturing the subtlety of Buddhist images was recognized by the Research Academy. Gao was sent to the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing to receive further education in classical Chinese painting in 1984. After his graduation in 1988, he returned to Dunhuang and was appointed as senior professional artist.  His reproductions of Dunhuang Buddhist art have received worldwide recognition and have been exhibited in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, France, Japan, and elsewhere.

The sample painting shown here showcases the high quality of Gao’s work and his ability to reproduce authentic Buddhist figure paintings from Dunhuang and the Silk Road.   Gao is willing to take commissions related to Buddhist paintings from Dunhuang, the Khara Khoto Collection at St. Petersburg, and paintings recovered from the “Library Cave” in Dunhuang (Cave 17, discovered in 1900) and held in the British Museum, The Musée Guimet in France, and the New Delhi Museum.  Gao Peng 's work is available in our Current Offerings under Classical Chinese Paintings.
