Print, ink and color on rice paper, with original frames, under glass .

The print comes in a silver-colored metallic frame, well-suited to the color and subject matter of the piece.  The frame is in good condition, and since it is not new it shows minor signs of wear (very small scratches and a few tiny dents). The photo does not do justice to the quality of the painting. (see the panda painting for the look of the frames)

Biography of the Artist

Xu Beihong (1895-1953) was a painter in both Chinese painting and oil painting. At 17, he was an art teacher in primary and middle school in Yixing. In 1914, Xu went to Shanghai, was helped by Gao Jianfu and his brother Gao Qifeng. He entered Zhendan University and studied French at Siccawei. In 1917, he spent six months in Japan. Soon afterward, he was appointed tutor in Painting Methods Research Society of Beijing Unifersity by Cai Yuanpei. In 1919, Xu went to Paris, studied in Ecole National Sup. des Beaux Arts. 1921-23 in Beilin. 1925, he visited and painted in Singapore, then returned to Shanghai. 1916-27, he traveled to Europe, and returned China in 1927. Xu was the head of art department of Nanguo Art Institute. 1928, he was the head of department of NCU Nanjing. In 1033, he organized modern Chinese painting exhibition in France, Italy, Germany, and Soviet Union. In 1935, he went to the department of Chinese painting to set up art academy. In 1942, Xu was invited by Tagore to visit and lecture in India. In 1942, he organized Chinese Art Research Institute at Panxi, Sichuan. He was the president of NAA Beijing in 1946. In 1949, Xu attended world peace conference in Prague. After 1949, he held various leading posts at CAFA and as acting president of CAA.
