Print, ink and color on rice paper, with original frames, under glass.

The photo does not do justice to the quality of the painting. The frame for "Red Lotus" is made of wood, red in color, with black antiquing highlights and a golden colored inner border.  It is in good condition, with a few signs of wear.

Biography of the Artist

Qi Baishi was born in 1863 in Xiangtan, Hunan. He is a traditional Chinese painter, calligrapher, and seal-engraver. In 1877, Qi was apprenticed to a carpenter, and in 1878 to a wood-carver. He studied painting, calligraphy, and seall-carving under local painters. In 1889, Qi became professional painter, chiefly of figures, later of flowers, birds, insects, and fish. 1903-07, he traveled around China, and got settled in Beijing in 1920. 1927-37, he taught in National Art Academy Beijing. After 1949, he was honorary professor in CAFA. Qi was named Outstanding Artist of the Chinese People by Ministry of Culture. In the year of 1955, Qi was awarded International Peace Prize by World Peace Councile.
